August 2009
Dear Friends in Christ,
As part of the Church's call for transparency in all matters please find the enclosed yearly financial report for all the operating expenses here at Saint Anselm's Church. I thank you continually for your generosity especially during these days of global economic crisis. You have not neglected the Church in her mission to proclaim Christ's saving Gospel in the world. At the heart of the mission is to always provide for the common good and to be mindful that all our financial decisions have moral consequences. Benedict XVI in his encyclical on the world economy "Caritas in Veritate" ("Charity in Truth") makes these points abundantly clear. After reviewing the data of the past fiscal year I believe that we are acting justly in our use of our treasure while we are always striving for more creative ways to grow charitably in our hearts and actions as disciples. Let us not grow complacent in our call to holiness.
I thank you also for allowing me to minister to you as your Rector since January 2007. As many of you now know I will begin my new assignment as pastor at Saint Mary of the Assumption Parish in Brookline on August 24. Father Tom Kopp whose primary work in the Archdiocese of Boston is Director of the Propagation of the Faith will assume the duties of Rector the same day. He is a fine priest eager to work with you as followers of Christ guided by the Holy Spirit. Know that you all hold a special place in my prayer and memory as I move on and I ask that you keep me in yours.
Peace,
Father Brian Clary
